Math: Early Release Today students reviewed the process for dividing with fractions. We discussed 3 important steps to follow. 1) Rewrite the problem, making sure to change mixed numbers into improper fractions and to change whole numbers into fractions. 2) Keep the 1st fraction the same, Change the division sign to multiplication, Flip the second fraction using the reciprocal. (KCF) 3) Simplify and and solve. | Homework: Complete Homework Worksheets 6th Grade IXL's L.2 = 100% L.3=100% L.5=100% |
Math: Students were introduced to division of fractions. They watched short Virtual Nerd videos, and practiced dividing fractions. Students were given worksheets to work on as homework. We will continue to learn and practice skills Wednesday and Thursday. Science Students presented their plant adaptations and defense presentation to their classmates. The students have been studying the structures and functions of living organisms, now we will begin a new unit:
Math
Today students were introduced to a new unit "6.NS.1" 6.NS.1 Interpret and compute quotients of fractions, and solve word problems involving division of fractions by fractions. "I can compute and solve word problems involving division of fractions". By the end of this week, all students should be able to:
Science: Students continued to work on their plant adaptations and defense presentation. They were to: 1. Explore the following sites and record important notes about plant adaptations and defense mechanisms in your digital portfolio. 2. Choose one flower and research the ways it adapts and defends itself. Create a presentation of your choice to display this information which you will share with your classmates. Students also worked with their group to brainstorm a list of 30 products that are made from plants. They recorded the information and created a table separating the products into different categories. Science Homework for tonight will be to complete your plant presentation. Be ready to share with class! Math:
This week students worked to solve addition, subtraction, multiplication and division problems with decimals. Students watched "Virtual Nerd" videos and took notes with important information. Our next unit will cover interpreting and computing quotient of fractions and solving word problems involving division of fractions by fractions using visual fraction models and equations to represent the problem. Science: Students in science class created 3D models of a plant. They also explored websites and recorded important information about plant adaptations and their defenses. They are now to choose one flower and research ways in which it adapts to its surroundings. Math:
Today students finished up IXL's and reviewed skills in multiplication and division with decimals. Tomorrow students will take a short CFA on goal 6.NS.3. Science: Students worked on their plant research and presentation. This project will be due next week Tuesday. Tomorrow is Friday and Genius Hour! Just A Reminder!
Curriculum Night: Thursday, September 24th 6:00 - 7:00 PM 5th and 6th grade parents are encouraged to park in the back parking lot. 4th grade parents are encouraged to park in the front lot and driveway. Upon arrival, please report to the gymnasium for a brief presentation by Dr. Gammon starting at 6:00. Math: Students practiced addition, subtraction, multiplication and division problems with decimals. Most all were able to get through most of the work, but some still have a few IXL's to complete. Science: Students explored websites and recorded important information. They are now to choose one flower and research ways in which it adapts to its surroundings. They will also create a presentation of their research for the classroom. Math: Today students continued working to solve addition, subtraction, multiplication and division problems with decimals. Students were to complete the morning math start up, watch "Virtual Nerd" videos and take notes. Students have a practice worksheet that they were to take home and complete. Some students are completing the entire worksheet while others are only required to work on addition, subtraction and multiplication. Attached is an anchor chart to help students if they are struggling with the procedure. Just an FYI, there is an error on the chart...can you find it??? Today was Picture Day! **Congratulations to the following students for earning their name on the "Wall of Champions"! Layla Tevvin Jazmin Talaya Chad Blaise Lillian Austin Peyton Jesse Bailey Dakota James Savannah Collin Math: Students worked in groups and began activities in our new unit, 6.NS.3. Students should continue to practice vocabulary in Quizlet. Tomorrow we will begin our review and use of decimals in addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. Today students should have completed the following activities.
Science: Tomorrow students will complete their 3D Model of a Plant. Students should bring all supplies needed for the activity! Math
This week students started looking at the standard algorithm for long division while continuing to review GCF and LCM. Students were introduced to interactive charts that will help them through the long division learning process. Next week we will continue to review long division and begin our unit 6.NS.3 "Fluently add, subtract, multiply, and divide multi-digit decimals using the standard algorithm for each operation". Science This week students dissected flowers! They identified male and female parts while inspecting the leaves, petals and internal parts. The students were also able to use magnifying glasses to examine small parts and the microscopes to examine plant cells. Next week, students will look at plant adaptations and defense mechanism. Genius Hour Students continued working on their Genius Hour Projects. Dr. Gammon and Counselor, Kim Paige, took time from their busy schedules to talk with students, discussing their ideas and giving direction for next steps. This is an important discussion as the projects are geared for the benefit of the Mooresville Intermediate School. Our students are solving problems such as, Bullying, Coding, Bathroom upgrades, Cafeteria activities and much more. It will be interesting to see what evolves from the efforts of these students in the next coming weeks. Math: Today students reviewed LCM; GCF, Order of Operations,Exponents, and Long Division! Wow, we have learned so much in such a short time!. Unit NS.2 will be completed tomorrow....so get all your work turned in before the end of the day Friday! Thursday's Homework: 6.NS.2 and 6. NS.4 worksheet. Use all the anchor charts on this weebly and/or review your video notes if you are having problems answering the questions on the worksheet. Science: Today students worked on their 3-D model of a plant. We will complete this assignment on Tuesday September 22. Remember to be creative and display all the important parts of the plant. Thank You Talaya for the great looking board!
