This week students started looking at the standard algorithm for long division while continuing to review GCF and LCM. Students were introduced to interactive charts that will help them through the long division learning process. Next week we will continue to review long division and begin our unit 6.NS.3 "Fluently add, subtract, multiply, and divide multi-digit decimals using the standard algorithm for each operation".
Science
This week students dissected flowers! They identified male and female parts while inspecting the leaves, petals and internal parts. The students were also able to use magnifying glasses to examine small parts and the microscopes to examine plant cells. Next week, students will look at plant adaptations and defense mechanism.
Genius Hour
Students continued working on their Genius Hour Projects. Dr. Gammon and Counselor, Kim Paige, took time from their busy schedules to talk with students, discussing their ideas and giving direction for next steps. This is an important discussion as the projects are geared for the benefit of the Mooresville Intermediate School. Our students are solving problems such as, Bullying, Coding, Bathroom upgrades, Cafeteria activities and much more. It will be interesting to see what evolves from the efforts of these students in the next coming weeks.
