Use the photo as a guide to create the Continent foldable using 4 sheets of paper. Title the foldable "Building Maps Through Geography". Label the tabs: Asia, Africa, Europe, Australia, North America, South America, Antarctica.
In Math
Students are continuing to work on their pre-algebra skills. These skills are a foundation for their Algebra future, so we are working really hard to cement a good understanding. Next week, students will explore equivalent expressions as a way of solving equations. For all information on graded work, go to this weeks icurio unit "3.Q.D 6.EE.6 and 6.EE.7" and look in the section under "Checklist and Homework". Graded IXL homework for the week: X.11, X.12, X.13, Y.3, Y.4 In Science Mr. Eisenhofer was our guest speaker in science this week. Teaching students the basics about neurology and answering a ton of questions, students were engaged and intrigued by his information about the brain. Students completed our unit on Matter with a final assessment. Upcoming Reminders Feb. 22 - MIS Chick-Fil-A Night Feb. 25 - Interim Reports March 9 - Early Release Day March 25-April 1 - Spring Break! In Math,
Students took another look at inequalities and evaluated values from a specific set of numbers to determine if an equation was true by using substitution. Students also worked on Order of operations, assigning a value to a variable and solving an equation, recognizing "like terms" and understanding the distributive property. Students completed digital assignments, task cards and worksheets, as well as played games and working with the teacher in small groups. In Science, Students reviewed heat transfer by investigating conduction, radiation and convection. Students created a visual with the research they had collected. Students in Eisenhofer's science class completed the unit with the Matter assessment. Mrs. Boice's class will finish next week. Dates to Remember: Feb. 15 - No School for Students/Teacher Workday Feb. 16 - Student OBX Room Preference sheets due Feb. 22 - MIS Chick-Fil-A Night Feb. 25 - Interim Reports Today in Math, students took another look at inequalities and evaluated values from a specific set of numbers to determine if an equation was true by using substitution. Tonight students should try two of this weeks IXL's. These can be found in the icurio unit "2/8/16 Math Menu for 6.EE.5"
In Science, Students continued to work on heat transfer by investigating conduction, radiation and convection. Students will create a visual with the research and notes they have collected. Students applied properties of operation to generate equivalent expressions. They practiced simplifying expressions and combining like terms. Moving forward, students will use algebraic expressions to analyze and solve problems as well as finding solutions for inequalities. This weeks homework assignments:
Students investigated physical and chemical changes. Students learned that physical changes involve change of phases while chemical changes will involve creation of a new substance. Students observed the chemical changes that occurs during reactions with vinegar, baking soda, lemon juice, milk. They also observed physical changes such as ice melting and Kool aid dissolving in water. This weeks homework and assignments:
Due to construction at the High School, there will be a technology outage this weekend. Email services could be delayed. Important Dates to Remember: Feb. 12 - All Pro Dad @ 7:15 a.m. Feb. 15 - No School - Teacher Workday Feb. 22 - MIS Chick-Fil-A Night Feb. 25 - Interim Reports Today in math, students identified terms, algebraic terms, coefficients, constants, variables. Students completed a "Surrender" activity and worked on iReady math skills.

I hope everyone is enjoying the year's first SNOW DAY! Students, remember to work on your IXL's X.1. and X.2. Work them until you get to 80% or higher. You may also work on the remaining X.3 and X.4 to get ahead. Be sure to finish the foldable and take time to review the keynotes that were taught in class this week. All information can be found in your math icurio unit "3.Q.A Math Menu for 6.EE.2 a,b,c" Just a Reminder:
In Math, students began our next unit "Expressions and Equations". We discussed the difference between an mathematical expression and equation. Students worked on a foldable that they will use throughout the unit. The foldable is due tomorrow.
Homework Checklist: Do you have the notes from slide 3 in your notebook? Did you complete the foldable activity? If not...it is your homework for tonight. In Science, students reviewed material covering phases of matter. They completed a "Stand up, Hands up, Pair up" activity. After the review, they completed the unit test. Students who were not able to finish will be able to complete the test tomorrow. This week in Math:
Students completed EOQ for the 2nd Quarter. Next week will begin our study in "Expressions and Equations" in which students will answer the questions
Expressions and Equations will be covered for the entire quarter. This week in Science: Students continued their study in Phases of Matter creating a visual display that answered the question "How does heat effect matter?" Students were also busy creating a game of their own for fifth graders to learn about the different states of matter. |
